Dear members and supporters of Atina and the Valle di Comino,
It was under spring weather, end of October, that the attractive city of Louvain brought us together. The starting point being a renowned pizzeria in an alley a few steps from the historical center and something remarkable for a clan with Italian origins, everyone was on time!
Pizza for the people, and Rana fisherman of the day for Pierina and Thierry.
Warm welcome, quality lunch, nice place, but to find a menu with prices as affordable as in Atina, we'll have to search for another place.
Let's underline the easy use of cutlery by Benoit, perked up with a brand new carpal tunnel!
It was in light clothing that around 3:00 p.m. we moved to the second meeting point, joined by Manu and Francesco, on the Grand Place in Louvain for a furtive meeting with the association ‘La Dante di Lovanio’.
The Società Dante Alighieri di Leuven (https://danteleuven.be/) is part of the worldwide cultural organization Società Dante Alighieri. The aim is to spread the Italian language and culture through conferences, films, concerts, guided tours, a book club, gastronomic themed evenings and exhibitions. Thanks to Tiziana and Dorinda, our hostesses for the day who will be happy to share these future events with Euratina.
Barely time to cool off in the market square (Giuseppe being forced to siphon off his Leffe in 32 seconds) than our final meeting point was already looming with our guide.

It was an academic visit of almost two hours allowing us to contemplate the Brabant Gothic architecture of the city but also to discover certain paintings of the famous Flemish primitives within the majestic Saint Peter church.
I inform you that after Michelle Prouteau, heir in direct line to the kingdom of the Duke of Anjou, another member with noble and crowned origins, in the person of Thierry, is in the ranks of Euratina.

Great-grandson of the tutor of Charles-Quint, sole pope of the Netherlands and professor/rector at the University of Louvain in the 14th century.
Torn between my little boy's desire to do some shopping before the stores close, an urgent desire for Madame and a movie plan with a tall blonde and a short brunette for my twins, the goodbyes were brief but sincere.
I would like to thank each of you for your presence. A special nod to Viviane and Michel.
The next meeting, if you feel like it, could be in Paris? But that will be for a next adventure.

Per mettersi al riparo, niente come una discesa nelle viscere della nostra buona vecchia terra.
Il sito minerario di Blegny è il testimone vivente di un'era industriale passata.
Elencato come Patrimonio dell'Umanità dall'Unesco! Ma non solo.
È anche un luogo della memoria che ci ricorda le condizioni dantesche, quasi disumane, che dovettero affrontare i nostri nonni minori.
Cambiando un'Italia profonda e un clima caldo per una vita d'inferno nelle tane di un paese in cerca di lavoro.
Un affare sproporzionato:
"Il respiro di una vita per un po' di oro nero."
Tutti abbiamo sentito il peso di questa sofferenza.
Questa visita è stata un incontro simbolico per rendere omaggio a una generazione di uomini del sud.
La giornata è proseguita con un caldo 'pranzo' da un italiano nel centro di Liegi. I piaceri della tavola sono tante tradizioni che mettono, chi porta Atina un po' nel cuore, subito d'accordo.
Grazie a Sandra per l'organizzazione, grazie a Ben e Michelle, grazie al Tesoriere e alla sua piccola principessa. Grazie a Pierina e alla sua altra metà, grazie a Viviane e al suo amante di una vita!
